Hoarding help from a nurse-founded professional organizer

Hoarding help starts with a private conversation. When the amount of stuff in a home has become unsafe, unmanageable, or a source of shame, the answer is not a dumpster and a weekend. It is a person who will not judge you, a pace you can bear, and decisions that stay yours. That is what we do.

What working with us looks like

Urge to Purge was founded by a nurse, and hoarding is where that matters most. We know the difference between clutter and a condition, and we work the way a good nurse works: at the pace of the person in front of us, with their consent at every step, and with an eye on safety first.

Nothing leaves your home without your say-so. There are no surprise clear-outs, no family members sorting behind your back, and no photographs shared with anyone. We start with one small area you choose, we finish it, and we build from there. Progress is measured in usable rooms, not in truckloads.

If you are the adult child or the partner of someone whose home has become unmanageable, we can start with you. A first conversation is free and private.

What we do, and do not do

  • We do: sort with you, room by room, at your pace
  • We do: clear paths, exits and the kitchen first for safety
  • We do: coordinate donations, resale and hauling as you decide
  • We do: work alongside a therapist or case manager when you have one
  • We do not: throw things away without you
  • We do not: handle biohazard, mold or structural work; we can refer a licensed remediation company and come back after

How we approach a hoarding-level home

The four steps we use everywhere still apply, but the order and the pace change. Safety comes before sorting, and sorting comes in small, finished pieces.

Safety first. Clear paths to the door, the bed, the bathroom and the stove. Nothing else happens until the home is safe to move through.

One zone at a time. A chair. A counter. The space beside the bed. We finish it completely so you can feel the difference, then choose the next one together.

Your categories, your decisions. We ask questions and keep the piles moving. You decide. A “decide later” box is always allowed.

Short sessions, repeated. Two or three hours is a good session. Decision fatigue is real and we stop before it turns into a bad day.

Systems that hold. Once a room is usable, we give every kept item a home and set up a simple routine so it stays that way.

Questions families ask us about hoarding help

No. Cleanup companies remove; we help you decide. If a home needs biohazard, mold or structural remediation, we will say so plainly, refer a licensed company, and come back to organize afterward.

We can start with you. A private conversation about what you are seeing, what is unsafe, and what a first step could look like costs nothing. Many first visits happen without the person who lives in the home, and many second visits happen with them.

We price by the session for hoarding-level work rather than by the room, because rooms are not finished in one pass. The free first visit gives you a realistic plan and a number. Hauling, when it is needed, is quoted separately and only when you decide something should go.

Yes. We do not photograph a hoarding-level home for our website, we do not discuss clients, and we arrive in an unmarked vehicle if you prefer.

A private first conversation costs nothing

In your home, on the phone, or somewhere neutral. No pressure, no judgment, no obligation.
