Garage Organization in Union, KY
Garage organization in Union, KY, start to finish: a garage in Union, Kentucky, decluttered from years of accumulation into six labeled bins and a clear floor, for a client starting a new chapter. Here is how that went.
Before: what this Union garage looked like
As our client prepared to begin an exciting new chapter, she wanted her garage to reflect the fresh start ahead.
This was not a garage buried in clutter. The floor was new and mostly visible. The problem was that nothing had a home, so everything lived along the wall: a folded treadmill, an exercise bike, a stepladder, a stack of duffel bags, bedding in plastic bags, an unopened box, a bike rack and a wreath on the floor in front of the electrical panel. It looked like a move that had stopped halfway, which is roughly what it was.
How to organize a garage from scratch, step by step
A nearly empty garage is the easiest to get right, because you can build the system before the stuff arrives. That is the order we worked in.
Pull — Everything along the wall was pulled to the middle of the floor and opened, including the bags that had been sealed since the last move.
Purge — Together we split it four ways: keep, donate, sell, discard. The treadmill and a few boxes from the old chapter went. Years of accumulated items came down to what fits on one shelving unit, which was the point.
Plan — One heavy-duty shelving unit against the back wall, with six categories that match how she lives: decorations, pet, travel, tools, cleaning, workout. The wreaths went on the wall on hooks, off the floor. The exercise bike kept a spot at the end of the shelving where it would actually get used.
Place — One labeled bin per category, lids on, at reachable height. The hose reel, sprays, bucket and vacuum on the bottom shelf where they are grabbed most. The car in its bay with room to open the doors.
After: what changed in this garage
By the end of the project, her garage was transformed from an overwhelming storage area into an organized space that supported her next adventure. With less clutter and easy-to-maintain systems in place, she was able to move forward feeling lighter, more confident, and ready for what was next.
One shelving unit holds the whole garage: six black bins with yellow lids, each labeled, with the cleaning kit lined up beneath them and travel bags on top. Three wreaths hang on the wall where they can be seen. The car is parked inside and the floor around it is empty. It is a garage that can be reset in five minutes, because there are only six places anything can go.
Garage organization in Union, KY: questions we hear
How long does it take to set up garage storage from scratch?
A garage with this much in it is a single session, including assembling the shelving. Having the shelving and bins on site before we arrive is the one thing that speeds it up, and we tell you exactly what to get after the free first visit.
Do I have to buy the shelving and bins?
You buy them; we specify them after the first visit so nothing is wasted. One good unit and a set of matching lidded bins usually costs less than people expect, and it is the difference between a garage that stays organized and one that does not.
