Guest Bedroom and Bathroom Organization in Union, KY
Guest bedroom and bathroom organization in Union, KY, start to finish: a guest bedroom and bathroom in Union, Kentucky, decluttered and reset in a single visit before the client’s mother came to stay. Here is how that went.
Before: what this Union guest room and bathroom looked like
When a busy mom was getting ready for her own mom to come stay, she wanted her guest bedroom and bathroom to feel welcoming without adding more stress to her already full schedule.
The bedroom had a good bed in it and almost nothing else that belonged. A navy air mattress stood on end across the bed, with a laundry basket, a plastic tub and a stack of bags in front of it. A camping chair, a rolling clothes rail and a stroller had all been parked in here because the door could be closed on them. The bathroom was the same idea taken further: the walk-in shower had become a closet, filled to the glass with black bags, toys and boxes, with more clothes on the floor beside the bath mat.
How to get a guest room and bathroom ready for a visitor, step by step
A guest room is the easiest room in the house to lose, because nobody sleeps in it most of the year. The fix takes an afternoon if you do it in order.
Pull — Everything that was not furniture or bedding came out of both rooms and into the hallway. The shower was emptied bag by bag, and most of what came out was sorted in ten minutes because it had been bagged to hide, not to keep.
Purge — The air mattress was deflated and boxed for the garage, the outgrown toys donated, the empty boxes recycled. What was left had a home elsewhere in the house and went there.
Plan — The bedroom rule: the bed, one nightstand with a lamp, one clear surface for a suitcase and an empty drawer. The bathroom rule: nothing in the shower but the shower, and the counter down to what a guest would use.
Place — Bed made with the plaid set, pillows on, a basket by the dresser for the guest’s own things. Bathroom counter down to soap and a caddy, bath mat down, shower doors clean. The garland stayed on the window because it was nearly the holidays and it made the room look loved.
After: what changed in these two rooms
We decluttered, organized, and styled both spaces, creating a clean, comfortable environment where her guest could immediately feel at home. The result was a warm, inviting retreat that was ready for family visits, allowing our client to spend less time preparing and more time enjoying quality time with her mom.
The bed is made and the carpet is empty from the door to the window. The nightstand holds a lamp and a small TV and nothing else. In the bathroom the shower is a shower again, the floor is clear, and the counter has a caddy and a couple of bottles. Her mother could have walked in that afternoon.

Guest bedroom and bathroom organization in Union, KY: questions we hear
How long does it take to get a guest room and bathroom ready?
Both rooms together are one session. The sorting is quick because most of what is in a guest room does not belong there, which makes the decisions easy.
Where do the things that were stored in the guest room go?
Back to the rooms they belong to, into labeled bins in the garage or basement, or out of the house. We sort by destination before anything leaves the room, so it does not simply move to the next spare space.
