Laundry Room and Kids Bedroom Organization in Alexandria, KY
Laundry room and kids bedroom organization in Alexandria, KY, start to finish: a laundry room and a boy’s bedroom in Alexandria, Kentucky, two hard-working rooms that had stopped working, decluttered and reset in one project. Here is how that went.
Before: what this Alexandria laundry room and bedroom looked like
This family wanted two of the hardest-working spaces in their home to feel functional again — the laundry room and their son’s bedroom.
The laundry room had a long counter meant for folding and none of it was usable. Clean laundry was heaped along the length of it, two tubs of detergent sat in the middle, a dress hung from the wire shelf and more clothes were bagged on the floor beside the machine. The word CLEAN was on the wall above it all. In the boy’s room, an alcove with built-in cubbies had become a catch-all: cushions stacked on top, a basketball and a sports net on the floor, a hamper in the walkway, cards, books and games wedged in wherever they fit.
How to organize a laundry room and a boy’s bedroom, step by step
Two rooms with the same fault: a surface that was meant for working had become a surface for putting things down. The four steps fix that in each.
Pull — The counter cleared completely, the cubbies emptied onto the bed. In both rooms this took minutes and showed how little of the pile actually belonged.
Purge — Empty detergent bottles, single socks, outgrown sports gear, the games with missing pieces. In a child’s room the purge goes faster when the child is there for it; he knew which cards he still traded and which he had forgotten.
Plan — Laundry: detergents in a row on the wire shelf, hangers hung on its underside, a basket on the counter for the odd items and the rest of the counter kept empty for folding. Bedroom: cubbies zoned by type — books, games, cards, gear — with the football helmet on top as the one thing on display, and the hamper moved out of the walkway.
Place — The counter is a counter. The wire shelf holds the products at eye level. In the bedroom every cubby has one category and the carpet in front of it is empty, so putting things away is a one-handed job.
After: what changed in these two rooms
The result was a laundry room that makes everyday chores more efficient and a bedroom that gives their son a clean, organized space to sleep, play, and focus. By creating simple systems tailored to their family’s routine, we helped reduce daily stress and make both spaces easier to maintain long after the project was complete.
The laundry counter is clear from end to end except for a wicker basket, the detergents stand in a line on the shelf above, and the hangers hang beneath it ready for the next load. In the bedroom the cubbies hold books, games and cards in their own sections, the helmet sits on top, and the floor is clear through to the made bed in the next room.

Laundry room and kids bedroom organization in Alexandria, KY: questions we hear
How long does it take to organize a laundry room?
A laundry room is a few hours. Paired with a child’s bedroom, the two together are usually a single session or two short ones.
Will my son keep his room organized?
He will keep what he can reach and understand. Cubbies with one category each, at his height, with nothing stacked on top, are about as simple as a system gets. We build it with him so the categories are his, not ours.
